Niniola describes the collaboration with Kuti as a dream come true. “Femi is a legend in every sense of the word,” she says. “We got into the studio, and he gave us more than we could have wanted.” The forthcoming video for “Fantasy” was shot at The New Afrika Shrine, the music venue operated by Femi Kuti and family on the site of Fela’s iconic SHRINE nightclub.
The track offers an early taste of NINIOLA’s upcoming sophomore album, set to drop later this year via her own Drumroll Records, Naija Review and AWAL, Kobalt’s unique alternative to the traditional music label.
ABOUT NINIOLANINIOLA
is one of the most successful and acclaimed female artists in African music. Hits like “Maradona,” “Designer” and “Boda Sodiq” have won her glowing endorsements from Drake and Timbaland; none other than Beyoncé looked to “Maradona” for inspiration when crafting “Find Your Way Back” from 2019’s The Lion King: The Gift. An all-around entertainer who writes all of her own lyrics and incorporates choreography into each of her videos and performances, Niniola is also focused on giving back through philanthropy. In 2015, she founded Adopt A Child’s Education. The charitable organization has assisted the education of over 5,000 students in Nigeria through the awarding of full scholarships, payment of tuition and fees, and the donation of textbooks, school supplies, and learning facilities. She released her debut album, This Is Me, in 2017; her sophomore LP is due out later this year.
